LOCATION :west Africa is located between latitudes 4°N and 20°N of the Greenwich meridian.
POSITION :west Africa is found in the western part of Africa, it Is bounded in the north by Sahara desert, in the east by the Cameroon Republic and to the south and West by the Atlantic Ocean.
SIZE :west Africa occupies about 1/5 of the area of Africa and has a total land area of approximately 6,143,000 square kilometers. The main offshore islands include Fernando, annobon, and Cape Verde which occupy another land area of 1400 square kilometers. Thus, the overall land area of West Africa has a regional extend of about 3200 kilometers from West to East and 1280 kilometers from North to South. The countries with large areas include Niger (1,204 kilometers square), Mali (1,189 kilometers square) Mauritania (1,085 kilometers square) & Nigeria (923,768)kilometers square.
